Basic Tips for Concealed Carry
If you’ve just purchased a weapon for personal defense, you may have some questions. Whether you work or live in a dangerous area, have had a bad experience, or just want to keep your family safe, carrying a weapon on you is a very serious choice. Here are a few basic tips to make sure that you follow all laws and practice concealed carry effectively.
Wear Appropriate Clothing
To carry a firearm, you must have proper clothing and equipment. Some of the best clothes for concealed carry are those that look normal but also provide an adequate ability to hide your weapon. These clothes may have holsters and straps built into a plain shirt or undershirt that no one would look twice at. They will often conceal the weapon without making it noticeable. Another option is a hidden holster, band or strap under your normal clothing.
Buy a Proper Firearm
Not all weapons are created for the purpose of concealment. Most rifles and shotguns will not be able to follow laws regarding concealed weapons. Pistols are usually the most popular choice of hidden weapon due to their compliance with the law and ease of use. However, many factors can affect your decision. You must consider the caliber, magazine size, length of the barrel and grip size. A large revolver may not fit your intended purpose as well as a smaller handgun and vice versa. Consider your options carefully.
Learn the Law
All states are different regarding gun laws. Some may have an open carry policy, which means that weapons can be carried out in the open and the gun may be visible on your person to the public. Other states have concealed carry laws. This means that your gun must be concealed properly using clothing and holsters. Other states do not allow weapons to be carried at all.
Many states that allow the carrying of firearms also require a license, so make sure you follow the law of your respective state. You may also have to take additional training in order to get certified.
